08 Bucharest

Bucharest is sometimes called the "Paris of the East" because of its wide boulevards and the Romanian Arc de Triomphe. We saw Ceaușescu's monstrous building now called "House of the People", also Palace of the Parliament. Wikipedia calls it a "monument for a totalitarian kitsch style of architecture".

My favorite building as the Patriarchal Cathedral with its wonderful murals.

We had our farewell dinner at a local restaurant complete with folkloric performance.
